Passed time Silk embroidery on cotton, stainless steel stands.
Installation view: A Stone Sky, Thames-Side Studios Gallery, London. 2023
Delicate embroidery works based on studies of icy stalagmites seen inside the Raufarhólshellir lava tunnel during a self-direct residency in Iceland. Through their making – a build up of individual french knots – they emulate the way stalagmites build via the slow accretion of water dripping onto a cave floor. Embroidery is employed as a counter to the digital and as an intimate process that encourages meditation. The works evince the passing of deep as well as human contemplative time.
