‘Stone is fluid when viewed within its proper duration’ –Jeffrey Jerome Cohen, Stone: An ecology of the inhuman.
These sculptural pieces are made from rocks which have been left in a solution so that they grow aragonite (a form of calcium carbonate) crystals and mimic forms found in caves known as ‘cave flowers’. Reflected in a watery or mirrored surface they continue to change throughout the duration of the exhibition to eventually sit in dried out channels of mineral residue.
Dolomite is a type of limestone, rich in calcium carbonate which is usually formed from the compressed bodies of marine organisms that died in waters of ancient seas and therefore speaks to the mineral cycling between the organic and inorganic.
