Water and Night  Embroideries, 2023–

‘If water is the eye of the landscape, what ways of knowing does it engender?’ Gaston Bachelard, Water & Dreams.

Small-scale, silk-shaded embroidery works that are based on studies of bodies of water at night. Hill employs embroidery as a counterpoint to the technological and as an intimate process that encourages meditation. The embroideries explore the reflective surface of water as an alternative to the fabricated mirrors that are the light gathering components within telescopes.
