Water and Night  Embroideries, 2023–

If water is the eye of the landscape, what ways of knowing can it engender?

Small-scale silk-shaded embroidery works based on observational studies of light reflecting on bodies of water at night, or as they transition towards darkness.

I came to embroidery as a counterpoint to working with digital data and computer coding, finding in it an intimate process that encourages meditation and cultivates a different perception of time.

Through these works, I am exploring the reflective surface of water as an alternative to the fabricated mirrors that form the light-gathering components of telescopes, and water itself as an alternative instrument through which to come to know the cosmos.

The studies for these were made on Chesil Beach, Dorset (2023).
